BHOPAL: Citizens of Bhopal have discovered their creative streak during the pandemic, coming up with innovative ideas to make idols of Lord Ganesh for Ganesh Chaturthi. While beej-Ganesha and clay idols have been made by many, a few others experimented even further.
Pradeep Ghosh, founder of an NGO working for education, made an idol out of coconut husk.
Besides being creative, the idol is also eco-friendly.
Another devotee, Govind Sarathe, used the art of origami to make a Ganesh idol.
“There is a new initiative by an organisation to help reduce environment pollution caused due to immersion of the idols in water bodies. This special paper is made of recycled materials and is easily degradable, so I thought of giving it a try,” said Sarathe.
Many children also made small idols of the deity with flour dough, adding food colouring to it to made the clothes, crown and Lord Ganesha’s ‘mooshak’ (mouse) that is considered to be his ‘vahan’.
